‘Ant jam’

It is known that the sooner children are exposed to different languages the easier it is for them to learn to speak them effortlessly.

When our first born arrived my english was not the best, yet, and my Italian husband, raised in Italy by his American mother and having already lived in the US through college and a few years of work, seemed to have forgotten some of the correct Italian grammar, like the conjugation of some irregular verbs. No! No! NO! So we decided that he would speak English to the baby and I Italian. Little did we know, at 11 months the little fellow started to speak using both languages at the same time. When he wanted to be picked up he would say, “su-su-up!” raising his arms towards us; to be put back down he would squirm and voice, “giu’-giu’-down!” If he wanted to go back home we would hear, “casa-home“; to call our attention to something he would point and exclaim, “barca-boat!” or “cavallo-horse!“. We often wondered how messy it would be when he started to talk full sentences. To our enormous surprise words eventually fell into place in the right language, which was a big sigh of relief! Children are mysteriously clever from day one!

Those bruised legs say it all!
Not to speak of those eyes…

Anyway, our first little rascal was a might to be reckoned with, a firework of what seemed to be endless and fearless energy. When he wasn’t physically active his little brain was working full throttle (even more alarming!) and he would plunge into all kind of awkward situations. Once after looking for him for a while, my mom and I finally found him in a corner to the back of the house nobody went to; he was sitting on a low stone step fully concentrated on following with his index finger, and squashing, a line of ants on the ground. When asked what he was doing, with a proud smile he answered …”Ant jam!” (DAH!) We then realized that he was actually eating the little critters. Well ants, dirt, organic proteins and who knows what else… he wasn’t going to die.

Thankfully there was never a problem feeding our little fellow more orthodox food. One of the meals his nonna would prepare during the summer was zucchini ripieni, stuffed zucchini; a complete, simple and healthy meal that our busy chap happily devoured to refuel his growing body’s bottomless energy… SOB!

Jenny&Josh: Thunder and Lightning.

Haven’t you noticed that it is easier to ease children’s simplest concerns and fears if we encourage them to open up about what troubles them, and that it often helps to gently poke a bit of fun at what seems to be the matter? My children and I eventually figured out that the huge scary monster would shrink into a pitiful tiny bug when we talked about it, and dissected it with some light-hearted reasoning and laughter.

Thunder and Lightning is another story from the Jenny&Josh‘s series.

Thunder and Lightning is a work in progress. You might have noticed that the illustrations’ style is different from The Worldly Tooth Fairy‘s. I enjoy ‘experimenting’, and since I happen to be undecided about which illustrations I like better, your input would be much appreciated. Thank you.

How ‘Elvis and Me, and Our Pet Humans’ came to be.

When my youngest kid left home to college I felt a pang of uselessness and, although always on the move, felt that nothing was enough to fill my days. After feeling troubled and dissatisfied for a while, I resolved to concentrate on what I love most, drawing and painting, this time recollecting bits and pieces, morsels, about life with my growing kids.

My children grew up with two of the smartest and ‘curiousest’ felines I can think of; so keen on being constantly between our feet that, if you didn’t know better, you would think they were dogs in disguise.

He then would reach to scratch the toilet paper roll before jumping down from the toilet.
Elvis and Elton decide to adopt cute human pets.
Elton describes his and Elvis‘s newly adopted human pets.

Elvis and Elton have been such inherent participants to our family’s young years that I wrote stories where they, as our owners, tell about daily life with their pet humans.

MEEEOW! Our book will soon be available for the sophisticated human cub.
We’ll keep you posted.

Enjoy your Memorial Day week-end! I will be back next Tuesday with more morsels to share. Ciao, Alessandra

Why “WordierMe”

Today, May 13th 2019, is a very special day!

Every year on this day we celebrate the Birthday of my middle child, a beautiful young woman who, a while ago, was my most precious Mother’s Day present. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Today my son is starting his new exciting job! CONGRATS! My youngest girl, a future Doctor in Physiotherapy, is having, today, an important interview regarding her next Clinic. KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED!

And today I am for the first time publishing on Every Morsel Matters! HURRAY!

I chose WordierMe (Me, with more words) as the publisher of my children’s books, because I firmly believe that to introduce children to a richer vocabulary from a young age will encourage them to be more comfortable and successful at expressing themselves, both academically and socially. My books will include challenging words (words that might not be commonly used daily by a child) that will be simply explained, for the young reader to be able to understand and assimilate them.

Coming soon, the links to the books.
